Fundraising Tips
- Ask people to sponsor you — you don't get sponsors if you don't ask. Use the email templates on your Participant Page to send out emails to friends, neighbors and co-workers.
- Tell sponsors to make their checks payable to the "National MS Society"
-You can also accept credit card contributions; you can direct people to the MS Society Web Site, where they can make a contribution online using a credit card.
- Although you can't always do this, it's best to collect the pledge at the time that it is made, rather than having to go back later to collect the money.
- When someone sponsors you, always ask if their company has a matching gift program — it can double or even triple the amount of their contribution. If their company does have such a program, they have to get a form to you, which you will hand/send in with the check.
- When someone gives you a check to sponsor you, write "Walker: your name", "Team: DogPowered", and Greater Portland Walk on the memo line of the check (e.g., I would write "Walker: Suzan Morris, Team: DogPowered, Greater Portland Walk"). That's to make sure you get credited properly for getting that contribution.
